CIBC Sailing Summary 2024
The 2024 sailing season at Cockle Island Boat Club (CIBC) was an eventful one, with 57 scheduled events, keeping up the club’s long-standing tradition of active sailing. However, this year saw a slight drop in the average number of boats per event—4.9 compared to 6.1 in 2023—which meant fewer boats were out on the water.
Here’s how the season played out:
41 events were completed, just a touch fewer than the 42 events in 2023.
12 events were cancelled, a small increase from 11 cancellations in 2023, mostly due to weather or other factors.
4 events were abandoned, the same as the previous year.
Despite the smaller fleet, the sailing season was still lively and full of opportunities. Members made the most of the races and events on offer, with the club’s calendar packed and those who joined in enjoying a productive and fun year on the water.
Now that the sailing season comes to an end, we now shift gears and look forward to our winter program. While the boats may be out of the water, the club’s activities certainly don’t slow down! Our weekly presentations kick off soon, starting on Wednesday, 9th October, with Eric Gwynne’s fascinating talk: Diving the Wild Deer.
These sessions cover a wide range of topics—from sailing tips and tactics to personal stories and adventures. It’s the perfect way to keep the sailing spirit alive until we’re back on the water again next season.
